First blog post!

This is my very first blog! and my very first post!!

My name is Amalia. I am 26 years old, and I started this blog because I am moving to South Korea in 3 weeks. Right now I live in Jupiter Florida. I am an artist full time and art teacher some of the time (Wednesdays and some weekends).

Almost two years ago I made the decision to apply for this teach abroad program, and   FINALLY yesterday I  received my official appointment in Korea. It was a really long and arduous process, and the waiting nearly killed me. I think my friends were getting concerned. I will be placed at a school in the Gangwon region and will teach English from February 2017 until February 2018. That’s a whole year. Seems crazy. It seems crazy for me to go out on a limb and do something like this. Most of the time I am very careful and thoughtful. But every once in a while I like to do something scary and adventurous just to balance things out. I have no interest in teaching English as a career. I have doubts about this all the time. But I want to travel, and explore a new place. I want to meet new people and gain confidence in a classroom. When I come back from Korea, I’ll be getting ready to return to University for my Masters in Art. But right now, this seems like an awesome adventure. I do worry about removing myself from my art practice, and about being distracted from my passion. However, I have other interests. I love to travel. I love it as much as I love Art, and without travelling my art would be kinda lifeless.

Hopefully I will be alright at teaching a foreign language. I think I can make it fun. Maybe I can make everything an art project? Korean parents would totally love that for sure  (I’m very sarcastic I should probably tell you that) This blog will be sassy.

Anyway, In the coming weeks I’ll be getting myself ready, packing up my life, saying goodbye to my parents/friends, and finishing up my last art class for the time being. I have no idea what I’ve gotten myself into, or how this journey will turn out. I’m sure I’m going to make a fool of myself dozens of times. My friends love it when I do stupid stuff, and they love to laugh at me. So I figure, I could share all the weird stuff that happens on this blog. Just trying to make you laugh.  *ahem christian*
